A front BMX hub with ball bearings is a cheaper and older option with limited lifespan. Inside the hub body, you will find regular ball bearings that wear out, so the hub requires more frequent servicing and bearing adjustment using cone nuts.

Advantages: Low cost

Disadvantages: Older version, shorter lifespan, lower strength, requires servicing

A front BMX hub with sealed bearings is the most commonly used and most reliable option, guaranteeing a long lifespan and almost maintenance-free operation during use. In case of bearing wear, replacement is relatively inexpensive and easier compared to the ball bearing type.

Advantages: Reliability, long lifespan, simpler construction, durability

Disadvantages: Higher cost

Differences between MALE and FEMALE

MALE (samec): Hub with a 10mm axle to which nuts (17mm) are threaded. Recommended for riding without pegs.

FEMALE (samica): A hub with an axle to which 10mm bolts are screwed in. This system is preferred when using pegs because the tightening is more secure compared to the MALE axle. An advantage is also that the axle won't protrude, reducing the risk of injury in case of falls.

FLANGELESS (hub without a side flange):

FLANGELESS front hubs are not as common as traditional flanged ones. It is a design concept that prevents spoke breakage during grinds and also reduces the weight of the hub. This option is mainly preferred by the PRIMO brand.
